Teachers at the Ohio Corn & Wheat-sponsored Focus on Water Quality and Soil Science workshop had the opportunity to meet two great professionals: Ohio farmer Gary Wilson and OSU Water Quality Initiative Director Heather Raymond.
Wilson, a seventh-generation farmer in Hancock County, greeted the workshop participants, then spent the morning observing the soil activities and sharing his knowledge about agriculture.
Raymond spoke to the teachers about her career path and the impact teachers had in her life as she followed her passion to become a scientist. She encouraged the teachers to get students outside and get them asking questions to facilitate learning. She also talked about the importance of volunteering in various situations to gain knowledge and make connections.
