Getting your hands dirty

Adam Downs teaches at Oak Harbor High School in a satellite program of Penta Career Center. His freshman ag education class performed these Ohio Corn & Wheat-sponsored Feed the World soil texture activities recently in class. Downs said, “The students really liked the project of texturing the the soil. They liked that they could get their hands dirty. Some even went home and tested the soil around their house to see what type of soil they had.”

Downs said his courses include several standards that touch on soils. “This activity was an excellent way for students to gain hands-on learning.” He said he appreciated the labs and activities from the Feed the World workshop that help to engage his students.
