Georgie Stacy, Upper Level Science and Biology Teacher at Ridgedale Local Schools in Morral, Ohio, recently participated in a Feed the World workshop focused on ethanol production and sustainable fuels.

“Something that I learned throughout this workshop today is the difference between E15, which is also known as unleaded 88, and E85,” Georgie shared. “I think that’s really interesting to be able to understand the different types of fuels that we can use in different types of vehicles, and be able to have more sustainable fuels for the future.”

For her environmental science classes at Ridgedale, Georgie sees powerful opportunities to connect classroom concepts to career paths. “The way that I can use this material in my classroom is being able to use it in my environmental science classes to really give the students an ‘aha’ moment to realize what really goes into the industry relating to corn.”

The workshop opened her eyes to career opportunities she can share with her students. “The materials in the workshops can help influence my students and their career choices by being able to show them what different types of career paths they can take,” she explained. “Especially with looking at how the ag industry with corn can be put into an industry related to fuel, they can really take a step back and realize how some of these industries are actually related.”

Georgie appreciates how the workshops equip teachers with hands-on activities for their classrooms. “I think that these workshops are very educational to a lot of different teachers who are then able to provide more hands-on experiences to their students,” she noted. “I appreciate this extremely, and I’m sure my students will appreciate being able to do these unique learning activities as well.”

Through Feed the World workshops and classroom-proven resources, teachers like Georgie are helping students discover the science and career opportunities in sustainable fuel production. Register for an upcoming workshop to bring the science of sustainable fuel production to your classroom.
