Did you know? The United States discards more food than any other country in the world: nearly 60 million tons — 120 billion pounds — every year.* That’s a LOT of food, especially as farmers are working to feed our growing population.
During the Ohio State Fair this year, Ohio Corn & Wheat partnered with Kroger and the Ohio Department of Agriculture to help fairgoers understand how to limit food waste.
Visitors to the Taste of Ohio Cafe at the fair were encouraged to throw leftovers in the correct bin to help create compost. Nutrients from the leftovers then get put to use. The corn outside the building grows in compost from last year’s fair!
