Future homeowners learn about urban fertilizer application

Ashley Thompson, agriculture instructor at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, attended the two-day Feed the World workshop last summer. She used several of the soil lessons this year in her Greenhouse & Nursery Management class. Thompson said, “I liked the lessons because they touched on material that I had taught before, but helped me to clarify points with meaningful connections to my students.”

Her students enjoyed the lesson about proper amounts of lawn chemicals, as it provided a good visual of the 4 R’s for fertilizer application: right type, right time, right application, right amount. Thompson hopes her class understands the importance of doing their part to manage responsible use of fertilizers on the residential side.

She said, “I am happy that I was able to get into the Feed the World PD last summer. The lessons shared were of high quality, and ones that I can actually use in my classes.”
